Hitsujiyama Park Shibazakura — Pink Moss Carpet Fields

Each spring, Hitsujiyama Park's hillside explodes into 400,000 pink, white, and purple shibazakura (芝桜, moss phlox) flowers covering 17,600 square meters in undulating waves. The design creates a living carpet — different colored varieties planted in flowing patterns against the backdrop of distant mountain peaks. The bloom period (mid-April to early May) draws 200,000 visitors annually, making it one of Kanto's premier spring flower events.

Shibazakura (literally 'lawn cherry blossoms') are low-growing alpine flowers that create dense mats of color, resembling sakura blossoms spread across the ground. Hitsujiyama's design incorporates eight varieties in pink gradients, white, and purple stripes. The hilltop location provides elevation for photography — the flower carpet stretches below with Chichibu's mountains rising beyond. On clear days, Mt. Buko's distinctive flat-topped silhouette creates the background focal point.
