Fukushima Prefecture is Japan's second-largest peach producer (after Yamanashi), renowned for exceptionally sweet, juicy momo (桃, peaches) grown in the warm Fukushima Basin where temperature variations between day and night concentrate sugars. Fukushima peaches are considered premium fruit — often sold individually in gift boxes at ¥2,000–5,000 per perfect specimen. The peak varieties include Akatsuki (あかつき, mid-July to early August, balanced sweet-tart), Kawanakajima Hakuto (川中島白桃, August, large and ultra-sweet), and Yuuzora (ゆうぞら, late August, honeyed sweetness). The peaches are grown with meticulous care: individual fruit bagging to protect from insects, hand-thinning to optimize sugar concentration, and precise harvest timing when sugar content peaks.

Multiple peach orchards (momo-en) around Fukushima City offer tabehodai (食べ放題, all-you-can-eat) peach picking during summer harvest season (mid-July through late August). Visitors receive 30–40 minutes in the orchard to pick and eat as many ripe peaches as desired — a messy, delightful experience where juice drips down your arms and the concentrated sweetness is far beyond supermarket fruit. The orchards also sell premium gift boxes and provide shipping services for sending fruit anywhere in Japan.
