Kyoto Handicraft Center — Souvenir Shopping Done Right

Kyoto Handicraft Center (京都ハンディクラフトセンター) is a seven-floor department store specializing in traditional Kyoto crafts: ceramics (Kiyomizu-yaki), textiles (Nishijin-ori, yuzen-dyeing), lacquerware, folding fans, tea utensils, and kimono. Unlike tourist traps, the center works directly with local artisans and prices are reasonable for authentic handcrafted goods.

Daily cultural demonstrations (10:00–18:00, free) showcase traditional crafts: kimono dressing, yuzen fabric dyeing, kyo-yaki pottery painting, and tea ceremony. The tax-free shopping benefits international visitors, and international shipping is available for large purchases.
