Nasu Kogen Strawberry Picking — Highland Berry Farms
Tochigi Prefecture is Japan's largest strawberry producer, and the Nasu Kogen (Nasu Highlands) region hosts dozens of strawberry farms offering tabehodai (all-you-can-eat) picking experiences from January through May. The highland elevation and cool climate produce exceptionally sweet berries — varieties like Tochiotome (Tochigi's signature cultivar), Skyberry (large and juicy), and Tochihime (delicate and fragrant).
The farms grow strawberries in elevated hydroponic beds (chest-height), making picking easy and clean — no bending, no mud. Sessions last 30–45 minutes; you pick and eat unlimited strawberries directly in the greenhouse. The berries are grown without excessive pesticides, and most farms provide condensed milk for dipping (traditional Japanese style). Beyond eating, the experience offers insight into Japanese agricultural precision — climate-controlled greenhouses, drip irrigation, pollination management.
