Noritake Garden — Porcelain Craftsmanship & Historic Kilns
Noritake Garden (ノリタケの森, Noritake-no-Mori, 'Noritake Forest') occupies the original factory site where Noritake china and porcelain — Japan's most prestigious Western-style tableware brand — has been produced since 1904. The complex combines museum exhibits on porcelain history and manufacturing, craftsperson studios where visitors watch artisans hand-paint plates, historic bottle kilns preserved from the early 1900s, galleries selling Noritake products, and landscaped gardens surrounding red-brick industrial buildings.
The Craft Center showcases the entire porcelain production process: clay mixing, mold shaping, bisque firing, glaze application, decorative painting, and final kiln firing. Master craftspeople work in glass-walled studios, demonstrating hand-painting techniques for Noritake's premium lines. The adjacent museum displays antique Noritake pieces including Art Nouveau and Art Deco tableware exported to Western markets in the early 20th century, illustrating how Japan interpreted European aesthetics.
