Osaka Ramen — Rich Chicken-Pork Blend
While Osaka is more famous for okonomiyaki and takoyaki, the city has developed distinctive ramen styles blending tonkotsu (pork bone) with chicken broth, creating a rich but less heavy base than Kyushu-style. The most famous is Tenkaippin's 'kotteri' (ultra-thick) ramen — a polarizing style using blended chicken and vegetables to create a creamy, almost paste-like broth.
Osaka's ramen scene also features excellent shops representing other regional styles (Sapporo miso, Tokyo shoyu, Hakata tonkotsu) due to the city's working-class culture embracing diverse food traditions. Ramen shops cluster in Umeda, Namba, and university districts.
