Chiran Tea Fields — Green Tea Terraces

Chiran produces some of Japan's highest-grade sencha green tea, grown on terraced hillsides south of the samurai district. The tea fields create geometric patterns of curved hedge-rows following the hillside contours — particularly photogenic in early morning when mist settles in the valleys and workers hand-pick the first flush leaves (April–May).

The region's volcanic soil and mild climate (protected from cold winds by surrounding mountains) produce tea with characteristic sweet, umami-rich flavor and minimal astringency.
