Zuiryuji Temple (瑞龍寺) is a National Treasure Zen temple in Takaoka City, representing the pinnacle of early Edo-period temple architecture. Built in 1663 by the Maeda clan (rulers of Kaga Domain) to honor the second lord Maeda Toshinaga, the temple exemplifies rigorous symmetry and Chinese-influenced Zen design. The layout follows the traditional Zen 'seven-hall garan' configuration — a series of halls aligned on a central axis surrounded by covered corridors.

The temple's architecture is remarkably preserved: the main Butsuden (Buddha Hall), Hatto (Dharma Hall), and Sanmon Gate are all National Treasures, featuring soaring tiled roofs, massive timber pillars, and carved details. The temple grounds span 35,000 square meters of raked gravel courtyards, corridors, and gardens, creating an atmosphere of Zen austerity and spatial harmony.

Zuiryuji is less visited than Kyoto's famous Zen temples, offering meditative quiet and architectural appreciation without crowds. The temple is especially striking during winter illuminations (February) when snow blankets the grounds and lights accentuate the hall silhouettes.
